KT EVENT BOOKINGS: LINEAR SCORING, WHAT, WHY & HOW?

Jun 15, 2024

The Mayo Roscommon Breeders invites the industry to  Glenamaddy Equestrian Centre next Friday the 21st June at 06.30 pm as they aim to give insights  to the foal and young horse selection process via linear scoring and gain feedback from industry. This is a practical event with real-time evaluation and feedback of foals and young horses on display. MRBG/IHC will highlight the real stumbling block in the system for the industries inability to process real time performance evaluation pedigree reports for efficient selection of foals and young horses towards overall more vibrant Equine Farming Economy.

Tickets for this event cost 28 euro (incl. Vat).

Demo: Foundation Training in Foals & Young Horses

As mentioned in the weekends Irish Field Article Equine Biomechanics is an increasingly popular topic covered by National Governing Bodies (NGB’s) world wide.  Patrick Hester Equestrian (‘Harmonising the science of equine learning, horsemanship and equitation) will present a demonstration after the KT event on young horse training. A some what forgotten topic by NGB’s he will give insights into how the horse learns to follow clear instructions from breeders and producers to improve foundation training in potential high performance athletes through the training of clear responses in the horse. These responses would allow biomechanical performance traits to function more effectively, aid foundation training which would in turn further their future careers and add value towards the market demands.

On the topic of ‘Equine Learning’ it would have been Patricks  intention to have included this education of breeders and producers under the current National KT Program being run by DAFM funded by the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-27. As outlined in the article his own and national leadership failed to lobby intensely enough to construct a national horse breeding and production syllabus  for breeders and producers which could have been incorporated into what should have been a National Equine Specific KT program similar to Reaching New Heights Recommendation 2.2 (Develop a single progressive accredited education system - a National Equestrian Education Pathway (NEEP) – a single system for breeders, riders and those involved in equestrian industry under the Department of Education) which could have encompassed rural biodiversity and equine farmings cabon footprint contribution in Ireland (Central Statistics Office states approx. 12.2 % of the total agricultural land area is used for equine breeding & production). We hope to debate all this at our KT Event.
